BUSY 36 HOURS FOR FIREFIGHTERS

As Fire departments from around the area were preparing for a major Noreaster to hit the state on Sunday afternoon New Canaan got a early start. At 0415 Sunday morning Ladder 3 was toned out for mutual aid to the town of Vista NY for the structure fire at Oak Ridge comdominiums. While en route units were updated that the location was actually Rings End Lumber Yard which was across from the original address. Car 1 was the first New Canaan unit on scene and reported a fully involved 1 story commercial structure. Ladder 3 arrived and immediately went to work setting up for master stream operations. Over the next hour New Canaan Tanker 8 Engine 1 and Engine 2 were also called to the scene to assist with water supply operations extinguishment and overhaul. New Canaan units remained on scene for 10 hours before returning back in service at 1415 hours. With about 2 hours of down time fire crews agian were put to the test as the worst of the Noreaster began to hit southwestern CT. Crews were called to numerous AFA and water related problems including flooded basements and roads. Fire crews did not stop running calls until the following afternoon. In total New Canaans bravest responded to 49 calls from early Sunday morning through Monday night.
