On the morning of Tuesday April 24 at 1022 Engine 1 Ladder 3 Engine 2 Rescue 5 Unit 64 Cars 2 and 3 were dispatched to 71 Pine street at the New Canaan Cleaners for a report of smoke coming from the chimney. Engine 1 and Ladder 3 arrived on scene within minutes and reported that the building was on fire with smoke and flames showing from the roof. Engine 2 assumed the second due engine responsibilities and laid in from the plug at Pine and Park streets near the Post Office and supplied Engine 1. Units in operation found the main body of fire to be confined to the area immediately around the chimney but was difficult to access because of its location between the ceiling and roof. Crews from Ladder 3 and Rescue 5 went to work opening up so that the Engine 1s crew could gain access to extinguish the fire. All occupants evacuated the building under their own power. Car 3 had Pine street command and placed the fire under control roughly 15 minutes after the initial dispatch. All NCFC units cleared the scene in about an hour. On a side note congratulations to Firefighter DiIorio for doing a great job pumping his first fire.
