LOCAL TOWNS HELP WITH LIVE BURN DRILL

On Sunday members of New Canaan Fire Vista Pound Ridge and South Salem gathered at an acquired structure on North Wilton Road just at the Wilton border for a live fire drill with an emphasis on water supply operations. Water in this specific area of town is only found in reservoirs ponds and swimming pools. The need for tankers is therefore paramount. Sundays drill had four participating tankers 1 from each department in addition to New Canaan Engine 2 drafting from a nearby pond filling each tanker as they dumped their load into a portable pond at the driveway leading to the fire. The drill went relatively smoothly and each tanker was able to dump 5 loads at approximately 3000 gallons each. In the end we used somewhere between 40000 and 55000 gallons of water to protect the exposures and extinguish the fire. Special thanks to our mutual aid departments who helped with this drill in addition to the family who generously donated their home to us for training.
