DUMPSTER FIRE

On one of the first cold November evenings of the year Engine 1 Ladder 3 Tanker 8 Engine 2 and Rescue 5 were dispatched to a possible structure fire across from Smith Ridge road at the recently vacated Winstead Farms near the New York border. The caller had told 911 operators that she can see the fire from her home across the pond. En route to the scene the NCPD confirmed a working fire but were unsure how to access it. Once units made access to the scene it was found to be a 20 yard dumpster fully involved just in front of the vacant farmhouse at which point the assignment was downgraded. The dumpster was filled to the brim with roofing materials paint trash and furniture. Car 1 requested an extra Tanker from Pound RidgeNY for water supply as this was a non-hydranted district of town. NCFD units remained on scene for approximately 1 hour after an extensive overhaul of the dumpsters contents.
